Welcome to the MHSHCA 2023-24 Membership Registration


Here is a list of benefits that the Coaches Association offers to both coaches and their student-athletes:

  • Ability to nominate players for All-State awards
    • Ability to vote for All-State players (First, Second Team & Honorable Mention)
    • Ability to vote for the “Dream Team”
  • Ability to vote for “Mr. Hockey”
  • Ability to earn Academic All-State status as a team
  • Ability for individual players to earn Academic All-State status
  • Medals and/or certificates for student-athletes for these awards
  • Ability to be nominated/selected and vote for “Coach of the Year” Award (each division)
  • “Assistant Coach of the Year” award (each division)
  • Three $500 scholarships awarded each year to student-athletes on teams in which coach is an Association member
  • “Perseverance Award” awarded each year to a deserving student-athlete from team in which the coach is an Association member (includes scholarship) 
  • Ability to be nominated for the “Coaches Hall of Fame”
  • Ability to participate in surveys regarding HS hockey and its future direction
  • Invitations to our Annual Coaches Meeting/Clinics with guest speakers, as well as the MHSAA rules meeting. This is also a great time to network with fellow HS coaches.
  • Complimentary Membership to the Coaches Site, one of the premier hockey coaching education resource sites available and a $119.99 per year value. 
  • Teams can be eligible for our weekly rankings in each division
  • Players are eligible for the All-Tournament Team at the State Finals
  • In addition, we are members of the Michigan High School Coaches Association
  • Increase network of coaches and resources from across the state of Michigan.
  • NOCAD Liability Insurance. The General Liability Cover- age that the MHSCA offers to its member associations as a rider is a policy written through the National Organization of Coaches Associations Directors (NOCAD). Member state coaches’ associations join to create a larger pool of coaches which then allows an organization, such as the MHSCA, to offer this important insurance coverage as an association rider benefit. The General Liability Policy provides a $1,000,000 liability limit per member from claims made due to negligent acts accidentally committed resulting in bodily injury, personal & advertising injury, or property damage to others. In addition, members are covered with $300,000 in fire damage protection and defense, not damages, for accusations of sexual misconduct
  • The MHSCA provides member sport associations another vehicle of communication with the MHSAA. Each year the MHSCA makes a presentation (either in person or by proxy) to the MHSAA Representative Council representing issues of our association members. 
  • Beginning with 15 years of coaching and ascending every five years, coaches receive recognition for their years of service in coaching. (15- 25 years earn certificates and 30+ receive plaques) 
  • Member sport associations receive Gatorade give-away supplies to use at their clinics or all -star games. 
  • Rich Tompkins Multi-Sport Award: The MHSCA recognizes athletes that have participated in a least 3 sports for all four years of high school. All of the nominees receive a high-quality certificate from the MHSCA in honor of being their school’s honoree. Additionally, one boy and one girl from each of the four classes of schools (A, B, C, D) will receive a plaque as the MHSCA State Multi- Sport Athlete of the Year. 
  • MHSCA Coach of the Year Recognition: Each year one coach from your association that is chosen by your group for the MHSCA to honor as the MHSCA Coach of the Year for your sport. 
  • MHSCA Hall of Fame Recognition: Each year 15 coaches from the state are selected for induction into the MHSCA Hall of Fame. The Hall is an actual physical entity that is located within the Student Activity Center on the campus of Central Michigan University. In addition to coaches meeting the established criteria, needed to be nominated for this award, member associations must also be in good standing for a coach to be considered for the MHSCA Hall of Fame. 
  • MHSCA Distinguished Service Recognition: One person per year (teacher, coach, administrator or other) will be honored for outstanding service to high school sports in Michigan. Presented as part of Hall of Fame Banquet in September, each year
  • 40 under 40 Award: The MHSCA is excited to announce working with the NHSACA which they have signed a partnership with Coach and Athletic Director magazine for the "Sport 40 Under 40" program. The award program is this: State Coaches Associations, will have the opportunity to nominate individuals through the MHSCA for the under the age of 40 for special recognition for the contributions they are making to high school athletics. These individuals may be coaches, people in the media, sponsors, and affiliate associations, anyone you wish to nominate who is making a significant impact in high school sports. 
  • Membership in the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) is part of the MHSCA member- ship. 
  • National High School Athletic Coaches Association and National Federation Coach of the Year Recognition: Nominations for these awards are submitted by the MHSCA to the respective organizations for state, section- al or regional and national awards. 
  • NHSACA Distinguished Service Award: Michigan, through the MHSCA, can have one of their members receive this award every 4th year. 
  • NHSACA Hall of Fame: Michigan can select two coaches each year for induction into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. This is probably the highest honor a high school coach can achieve.
