Following the conclusion of his 2017-18 senior season, Teddy Randell (Hancock) was named to NAHL Lone Star’s expanded roster lists for the remainder of the hockey season. The move makes Randell eligible to play in games for the rest of the NAHL regular season and playoffs.

After signing an NAHL tender back in January with the Brahmas for the 2018-19 season, Randell capped off his fourth and final season with Hancock by scoring 28 goals and 62 points in 28 games, as the Bulldogs made a run to the Division-III Final Four. Randell was named an All-State forward three times in his career and finished with 70 goals and 180 points in four seasons.

Being listed to Lone Star’s expanded roster for the remainder of this season streamlines the process for the 5-foot-9, 160-pound forward. Instead of getting a jumpstart on the offseason, Randell now has an early opportunity to play junior hockey and prove he has the ability to compete at the next level.

Comparatively, Adam Pitters (Grosse Pointe South, 2017) went through a similar process last Spring. He tendered with Aberdeen and after the conclusion of his senior year, he joined the Wings for five regular-season games and an 11-game playoff run. This season, Pitters went on to spend the entire 2017-18 schedule with Aberdeen and scored 15 goals and 31 points.

Randell joins a Lone Star team that is currently in second place in the South Division with 67 points, good enough to clinch a playoff spot with 10 regular-season games remaining.

OTHER MOVES

Goaltender Will Tragge (Livonia Stevenson) is also making the jump to the NAHL after an impressive senior season in which he won 21 games for the Spartans, leading the program to its fourth consecutive Regional Championship. Tragge finished the regular season with a .926 save percentage in 2017-18, ranking among the top 10 goaltenders in the state for a second straight season.

The 5-foot-10 netminder heads to Corpus Christi in an emergency backup role, where he’ll spend the remainder of the season with the IceRays. Tragge is a non-tendered “free agent” of sorts and the call-up serves as a tryout opportunity.

The possibility of him receiving a late tender offer still remains -- NAHL teams have a fixed number of tenders they can issue between November 1st and the day before the NAHL Draft in June -- which would pair him with a team, removing him from 2018 Draft eligibility. Even without a contract, though, a stint at the end of the regular season is an opportunity for Tragge to play his way into any team’s pre-draft plans or earn an invite to their main camps in the Fall.

The IceRays are currently in fourth place in the South Division, fighting for a playoff spot with eight games remaining in the regular season.

As of Friday, Brighton defenseman Sam Brennan was also added to Lone Star's affiliate player list and is eligible to play for the remainder of the Brahmas' season.

Brennan tendered with Lone Star in 2017 and went on to score nine goals and 32 points as a senior, en route to a second consecutive Division-I state championship.
